Virgin River, one of Netflix's most-watched romantic dramas, finally returned today, much to fans' delight, for a seventh season that comprises ten episodes, like almost all previous seasons. Before Season 7 came along, the show was renewed for an eighth season in July 2025, which, although has no premiere date yet, has surprisingly lost two major players.
Virgin River is an adaptation of Robyn Carr's novels, developed by Sue Tenney, and debuted on Netflix on December 6, 2019. Recent reports have confirmed that Marco Grazzini, who has portrayed Mike Valenzuela for five seasons of Virgin River, the last four as a series regular, is leaving after the current seventh season."He's not coming back for Season 8," showrunner Patrick Sean Smith shared. Additionally, Lauren Hammersley won't be back for Season 8 of the cozy drama after playing Charmaine for the entire seven-season run to date. Hammersley was a series regular for the first four seasons and recurred thereafter. Mike , a police detective and a Marine friend of Jack's , was last seen in the Season 7 finale of Virgin River getting comfy with a rebound of his own, Victoria . Victoria is the visiting medical investigator who confessed to Mike about having had a crush on him years ago during her cop days. Charmaine , on the other hand, had previously been abducted and was mostly absent this season until she was found and rescued by Jack's sister, Brie . What Does This Mean for 'Virgin River's Future? Despite Grazzini and Hammersley's departures, Virgin River boss Smith has implied that both could return in subsequent seasons."But they'll definitely be back and continue to be a big presence on the show," he said. The two exits after Season 7 match the total of series regular exits over the show's first six seasons, with Grayson Gurnsey leaving after Season 4 and Mark Ghanimé after Season 6. Meanwhile, Jenny Cooper, who plays Mel's sister Joey, has continued to recur after being a series regular in Season 1. The showrunner also shed more light on Virgin River's cast shakeups in general, noting that although it's not part of his plans, it could still happen in the long run. “For me, I’m just trying to look to the longevity of the show and making sure that the characters that we’re keeping have enough story engine in them to keep going.
