The San Antonio Water System offers coupons for customers to replace irrigated grass with garden beds through its WaterSaver program, and it’s offering advice to make it easier through a process called “solarization.” The city-owned utility will provide a $100 coupon for replacing 200 square feet of lawn with a new garden bed of approved plants.

Customers can apply for up to four landscape coupons per year through the program, and there’s a lifetime limit of eight coupons per SAWS service account. If you don’t submit photos for final inspection, or if your new garden bed doesn’t meet the requirements, you won’t be eligible for future coupons. Plants must be planted in the ground, not in containers, and the coupons may not cover the full cost of the 15 required plants.
