Where its initial budget for this school year had included cutting the equivalent of about 13 elementary school teachers and seven secondary school teachers to deal with a $4.5 million deficit, the SPS revised budget will use the bulk of the new money to bring back the equivalent of just under seven teachers, while adding seven new educational assistants and an elementary school English as an Additional Language teacher.
Remaining money will help with fuel costs, higher insurance premiums and costs of expanding a Michif language program at Westmount School.
