The pay-scale agreement doesn’t affect money raised through an additional millage that voters approved last month.
A change in the starting base pay affects most of the county’s teachers because the same rate applies for the first 14 years of work experience. Duval teachers last year had an average of 9.6 years of experience, the Department of Education reported from a survey of 7,644 teachers.
Brady said the pay raise will be retroactive to the start of the current school year once the state has approved the terms the school district negotiated with the teachers union. The agreement, which covers only one year, also set pay scales for district position including instructional support specialists, audiologists and psychologists.
