ICYMI: Sask. cross country ski group raising money for Red Cross efforts in Ukraine
Since the fighting started three weeks ago, Jacqueline Roy — motivated by images of people fleeing combat and of families in peril — has felt the need to do something.
A teacher by trade, Roy has worked with children for the past 15 years. On a number of occasions, she went to see the students perform at Mosaic, and now she has to explain to her students in Grade 5 and 6 why this war started and why people are suffering. So, after contacting the Red Cross to see what can be done, Roy and her friends and family got to fundraising.
Roy said the group is looking to raise around $5,000 by the end of the month. Sask Ski for Ukraine has grown from four people to 24 over the month. So far, the group has already raised $2,000.
