Police and fire officials responded to a reports of a drowning in progress around 2 p.m. The caller told dispatch that they saw a man in the pond “struggling to stay above water,” the statement said.Police said he told them that he had driven his vehicle toward the pond and gotten out to test the thickness of the ice.
Then, the ice gave way, and he fell into the pond, the statement said.The man had been planning to ice fish, police said.
