The fatal collision happened around 3:40 p.m. in northbound lanes of the freeway just south of Santa Teresa Boulevard, California Highway Patrol Officer Ross Lee said. Prior to the crash, the CHP received reports about a 2024 Toyota Tacoma traveling in the wrong direction. Lee said the driver – identified as a 39-year-old Orlando man – crashed head-on into a 2021 Tesla Model Y before officers could intercept him.The driver of the Toyota, meanwhile, was taken to an area hospital with major injuries.Northbound lanes of 85 were closed for an investigation and traffic was diverted onto Highway 87.Kurtenbach: Brandon Aiyuk's 49ers future is sealed.
