The pedestrian was gravely injured Tuesday in the area of North White Road and Kentridge Drive in San Jose.

SAN JOSE – Police are investigating the eighth fatal traffic accident of 2023 following the death of a pedestrian who was hit by a car Tuesday evening in the area of North White Road and Kentridge Drive.

San Jose police reported Friday that the pedestrian, an adult male, was pronounced dead the day before at the hospital. So far this year, nine people have died in traffic accidents in the city, with six of those people being pedestrians, police said. The man had been transported to the hospital Tuesday with life-threatening injuries after the crash at about 6:15 p.m. Tuesday on North White Road near Kentridge Drive.

A preliminary investigation shows that the man was struck by a 2001 Grey Chevrolet PT cruiser, which was driven by an adult male. The Cruiser was traveling north on North White Road when it veered into the southbound lanes of traffic and struck the pedestrian standing in the bike lane and waiting to cross the street.

The identity of the victim is pending notification of family. Police are asking anyone with information on this accident to contact Detective Bowen of the San Jose Police Department’s Traffic Investigations Unit at [email protected] or 408-277-4654.
