Freshman center Magoon Gwath stepped up, scoring seven unanswered points, and the Aztecs followed with an 11-point run. Despite this rally, San Diego State still trailed 41-29 at halftime.The second half saw another explosive offensive spurt from the Aztecs, fueled by top scorer Miles Byrd's three three-pointers. With point guard Nick Boyd contributing six points, San Diego State went on an 18-0 run to shift the momentum completely. They erased a 12-point deficit and took a 68-62 lead. Boyd finished with 11 points and five assists, including a crucial pass to Byrd, who sealed the win with an acrobatic layup in the final minute.
