San Diego is preparing for a third storm system bringing rain, wind, and snow. The National Weather Service has issued warnings. The mountains of the county were expected to receive an additional 3 to 8 inches of snowfall. Friday through Monday will be warmer and drier.

San Diego residents were preparing Thursday for the arrival of a third storm system expected to bring significant rainfall and strong winds across the county. Showers were anticipated to diminish overnight, with the more intense gusts of wind forecasted to subside by Friday morning. The National Weather Service issued warnings, emphasizing the potential for gusty and potentially damaging west winds, particularly along the mountain crests and adjacent desert slopes.

A wind advisory remained in effect until at least 2 a.m. Friday, highlighting the ongoing risk of hazardous conditions.\Weather officials predicted light to moderate rain throughout Thursday, raising concerns about potential ponding of water on roadways and the possibility of minor street flooding in urban areas. The forecast also included the chance of thunderstorms, which could bring locally heavy rainfall, stronger winds, and even small hail. Additionally, the mountains of the county were expected to receive an additional 3 to 8 inches of snowfall from Thursday into Friday morning. This could lead to blowing snow and reduced visibility, potentially dropping to levels between 3500 and 4000 feet. The region had already experienced substantial precipitation in the days leading up to Thursday's storm. Over the course of a 72-hour period ending Wednesday morning, the weather system delivered a significant amount of moisture across the county. The NWS reported that Lake Cuyamaca received 5.89 inches of precipitation, followed by Julian with 4.78 inches, Pine Hills with 4.66 inches, and numerous other locations with rainfall totals exceeding two inches, including Henshaw Dam, Birch Hill, and Palomar Observatory. These substantial rainfall amounts underscore the impact of the ongoing storms and the potential for continued impacts throughout the region.\The previous storms had already brought strong winds to various areas, as recorded by weather stations. On early Wednesday, wind speeds reached up to 76 mph in the mountains, 80 mph in the inland valleys, 52 mph in the desert, and 49 mph along the coast. These strong winds added to the challenges posed by the heavy rain and snowfall. Looking ahead, the weather forecast for Friday through Monday indicates a shift toward warmer and drier conditions, with high temperatures expected to climb approximately five degrees above the average for this time of year. This transition marks a departure from the stormy weather and will provide a respite for residents after enduring the multiple rounds of rain, wind, and snow.
