San Diego bike advocacy groups are calling for action and safety improvements in an open letter to local leaders. The letter comes after 4 deaths from Aug. 7-14 and a 9-year-old being hit on Sunday.

SAN DIEGO - Cycling advocates like Will Rhatigan of the San Diego County Bike Coalition are calling for action.

The bike coalition and others are calling on local city governments and SANDAG in an open letter to find safety improvements that can be done at the different crash locations in that week-long period. One of the latest to be hurt was a nine-year-old boy who San Diego Police say was seriously injured in a bike crash with a car on Sunday.
