Eduardo 'Eddie' Vega has been named San Antonio's newest poet laureate. 'I’m so very honored and excited to take on this responsibility of Poet Laureate for San Antonio -- a city that welcomed me three decades ago, whose people have supported me, whose culture has enriched me, and which continues to be the creative energy behind this poet,' Vega posted to X. His three-year term begins April 1, the first day of National Poetry Month.
'And just very involved in the community. He's not someone who stays within the realm of poetry. He embodies the spirit of San Antonio when it comes to collaboration through the arts. We feel and really have seen, since the announcement, had so many people in different disciplines in arts celebrating his announcement.' A public investiture ceremony is slated for 6:15 p.m. April 15 in City Council Chambers.
