San Antonio Public Library will soon be led by a director from small-town Pennsylvania — Sukrit Goswami . Goswami was selected from a pool of 20 applicants at the end of a 10-month nationwide search. San Antonio ’s library board of trustees voted 10-1 Wednesday afternoon to appoint him to the library system's top job. He will oversee 562 employees and a $58 million budget. His start date has yet to be decided. Goswami has been library director at the Haverford Township Free Library since 2018.

The San Antonio Public Library is free to Bexar County’s 2 million residents. Goswami also spent a year as president of the Freedom to Read Foundation, a legal and educational nonprofit that aims to protect First Amendment rights and the right of libraries to collect and distribute information.
