Former Texas A&M star quarterback Kellen Mond aims to revitalize his NFL career with the San Antonio Brahmas.
Kellen Mond still remembers the last time he stepped onto the turf in the Alamodome, leading Reagan into a second-round playoff game against Stevens in 2014. Mond, a sophomore, threw for 212 yards and three touchdowns in the 38-31 win, but he exited the game in the fourth quarter due to a leg injury that kept him sidelined for another week. Much has changed since Mond hobbled off the field that day.
The former five-star prospect spent his senior year at IMG Academy in Florida, posted a historic career at Texas A&M, then bounced around the NFL for a few years — a period Mond describes as “definitely a rocky start to the league.” With NFL aspirations still in his crosshairs, the 25-year-old Mond is set to return to his hometown as a member of the UFL’s San Antonio Brahmas, joining the league in October with designs on using the platform as a launching pad back to the next level. “It’s an awesome feeling, being able to come back into the city and play for the home team,” Mond said. “Knowing what type of sports culture it is for this city, I can’t wait to get on the field and play in the dome that I used to play in. It’s a great feeling.” The Brahmas roster remains unsettled, with many moving pieces to sort out before the league kicks off the 2025 season in late March, but Mond said he signed with the expectation of being San Antonio’s No. 1 quarterback. “Obviously there’s nothing ever promised in any sort of league,” Mond said, “so you have to come in and work for it.” Mond played just three NFL snaps in one game as a rookie after the Vikings drafted him in the third round in 2021, and he was waived before the 2022 season. He landed with the Browns that fall, shifted to the Colts’ practice squad in 2023 and spent a few weeks with the Saints in April
