Erik Cantu, 19, appeared in court Thursday after prosecutors say he violated the conditions of his probation for two evading arrest cases.SAN ANTONIO - Erik Cantu, the teenager who was shot by a San Antonio police officer in 2022, appeared in court Thursday after prosecutors said he violated the conditions of his probation for a pair of evading arrest cases.Cantu, now 19, pleaded no contest to the charges back on Sept.

It would be another year before he reached a plea agreement with prosecutors and received probation for the cases in September of this year. "I offer to the court to be mindful that he's 19 years old. He's experienced a significant traumatic event," Cantu's attorney Christopher Ramos told Judge Stephanie Boyd on Thursday. "Prior to the shooting, he has no criminal history. Not even juvenile history."

The defense reiterated that Cantu only drove to see his probation officer. "It's a young man, his first time on probation, trying to get this right," Ramos said. "Doing the best that he can. Reporting to probation. He just went about it the wrong way."
