After the extreme heat last week, we are likely to close out August with below-normal temperatures and possibly some scattered thunderstorms.

This summer’s weather in San Antonio has been reaching tops and making drops, going up and down like a roller coaster. In May, we experienced a big heat wave towards the end of the month, with unseasonably high temperatures soaring the middle and upper 90s. Over Memorial Day weekend, the temperature even hit 102 degrees on May 25, marking San Antonio ’s first day with triple-digit temperatures this year.

It’s official. Aug. 21 was San Antonio’s hottest day in 11 years. The weather in August, meanwhile, can be summarized as “ugh” — it’s the time of year when new transplants to South Texas begin to question why they moved here. This month, we’ve experienced extreme heat coupled with high humidity, including 15 days when temperatures reached 100 degrees or higher. The hottest day of the year occurred a week ago on Aug. 21, when we hit 108 degrees, a record for that date.
