The city of San Antonio is preparing for a cold week ahead as a winter storm enters Texas. Residents are urged to take precautions and ensure their homes are adequately heated. CPS Energy is actively working to prevent power outages, while Haven For Hope is opening a warehouse store and distributing warm clothing to those in need.
Joe Beluga, owner of Beluga Air, is preparing for the upcoming cold weather by ordering heating components like flame sensors and motors. San Antonio anticipates a cold week ahead due to a winter blast moving into Texas. Beluga expects to see 200 to 300 customers next week, double the usual amount. He emphasizes that while heaters provide warmth, they are useless without power. CPS Energy held a press conference last month to inform the public about their preparations for the cold weather.
CPS Energy President & CEO Rudy Garza stated that they experienced a short but intense cold snap last winter, reaching close to 5400 megawatts. Garza assures that they have added 2000 more megawatts to their grid and invested around 20 million dollars in tree trimming to prevent outages. He explains that tree-related outages are the most common cause during winter, as falling branches can impact power lines. Haven For Hope's Terri Behling announces that their shelter will open a free warehouse store on Monday, providing jackets, gloves, hats, and other necessities to their clients. They will also have outreach teams distributing warmers, blankets, coats, and hoodies to unsheltered individuals. With the shelter operating at over capacity for the past two years, they will accommodate 81 additional people if needed. They are holding a coat drive next Saturday to stock up on more coats
