Drew Moreno, a fifth-grader at Heritage Elementary School in Southside ISD, was killed in a house fire near San Antonio.

An 11-year-old elementary school student killed in a fire at a South Bexar County mobile home has been identified. Drew Aidan Moreno died Monday from thermal injuries, and soot and smoke inhalation, according to the Bexar County Medical Examiner 's Office. His manner of death has not been released. The fire erupted after 6 p.m. on Monday in the 20,000 block of Spanish Grant Road , according to Isaac Neri , a Bexar County spokesperson.

'One of our 5th-grade students passed away on Monday, January 13, 2025,' she wrote. 'This is a very deep sorrow for the family, our school, and the community.' Puente said the Southside ISD Critical Incident Response Team has provided support for students and staff.
