FILE - An officer with the Salt Lake City Police Department has been placed on leave after being arrested in Utah County on charges of forcible sexual abuse. According to court records, 26-year-old Zander Nunley was arrested on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 by officers with the American Fork Police Department.
At the Capitol on Wednesday, 2News asked Senate leaders if the Legislature should compel cities to cooperate with ICE."We've had conversations with the minority party, and we have common ground," Adams said. "The common ground is criminals ought to go home. Let's start there." "No individual should be held based solely on a federal immigration detainer under 8 CFR 287.7 unless the person has been charged with a federal crime or the detainer is accompanied by a warrant, affidavit of probable cause, or removal order," the police policy notes. "Notification to the federal authority issuing the detainer should be made prior to the release.
2News also asked spokespersons for Unified Police and the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office if those agencies are cooperating with ICE, and as of this writing, did not receive responses.
