Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff announced plans to hire 2,000 more AI salespeople, doubling their initial target. The company is also advancing its Agentforce AI technology, which will be available to customers in 2025. Salesforce aims to leverage AI to enhance customer service and drive revenue growth.

Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff announced at a San Francisco event on Tuesday that the company will hire 2,000 more salespeople specializing in artificial intelligence. This doubles the number Salesforce initially planned to add a month ago. The cloud software company, which caters to sales representatives, marketers, and customer service agents, aims to leverage generative AI to boost revenue. Benioff stated, 'We're adding another couple of thousand salespeople to help sell these products'.

He also noted that they already received 9,000 referrals for the 2,000 open positions, highlighting the strong interest. Salesforce's Agentforce technology, which creates and operates AI agents, will be available to customers in February 2025. Agentforce will handle complex queries within Salesforce's Slack communications app, leveraging all available data. Earlier this year, Salesforce reduced its workforce by more than 7,000 employees to align with economic conditions. As of January 31, 2024, the headcount stood at 72,682, slightly down from two years prior. Benioff also mentioned that Salesforce's homepage now features an experimental AI agent capable of responding to user inquiries about the company's products. Salesforce customers seeking assistance can engage with a chat-based AI agent that conducts 32,000 conversations weekly. Benioff stated that approximately 5,000 conversations are currently escalated to human agents due to AI limitations, a significant decrease from 10,000 before. Salesforce has been actively selling AI tools under the Copilot brand. During his presentation, Benioff compared Salesforce's AI implementation to Microsoft's, stating, 'If you check Microsoft's website to see how it is automating customer support, you can't find it.
