Salesforce is aggressively expanding its AI-focused sales team, aiming to capitalize on the growing demand for generative AI solutions. The company is also developing advanced AI agents and leveraging AI to enhance customer support.
Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff announced at an event in San Francisco that the company will be hiring 2,000 more salespeople specializing in artificial intelligence. The cloud software company, which focuses on sales representatives, marketers, and customer service agents, aims to leverage generative AI features to boost revenue.
Benioff highlighted the strong interest in these roles, with 9,000 referrals for the 2,000 open positions. Salesforce is also developing its Agentforce technology, which will create and operate AI agents, becoming available to customers in February 2025. Agentforce will handle complex questions within Salesforce's Slack app, using all available data. Salesforce has implemented various AI tools, including an experimental AI agent on its homepage that responds to user queries. Benioff noted that a chat-based AI system assists customers, handling 32,000 conversations weekly with only 5,000 escalating to human support, down from 10,000 previously. Salesforce has been selling Copilot-branded AI tools but emphasizes that Microsoft hasn't advertised its AI-powered customer support solutions as prominently
