SAN ANTONIO - A local school district has voted to close yet another campus as part of its ongoing 'right-sizing' campaign. In a meeting held on Monday evening, the San Antonio Independent School District board voted to close Rhodes Middle School.
San Antonio ISD trustees were still meeting Tuesday night as they weighed the future of two middle schools and what to do with 15 empty school buildings that have already closed. More than 60 people addressed the board, urging the district to keep Rhodes and Tafolla middle schools open and under San Antonio ISD control. The board has decided to close the Rhodes campus. Trustees are also considering an agreement with Colorado-based charter school Third Future Schools that would give Tafolla Middle School to the charter group, a move that could affect the school’s elective programs. Parents and community members spent nearly three hours asking the district to fully consider its decision and calling for transparency, saying they have felt left in the dark during the process.Trustees rearranged the night’s agenda to take up the conversation earlier and were actively discussing the proposals as the meeting continued.
