San Antonio FC fell behind early and was unable to overcome that deficit in a 3-1 loss at Sacramento Republic on Saturday night.

San Antonio FC’s Ignacio Bailone moves the ball down the pitch during the first half of Saturdays USL soccer game against Colorado Springs FC.

“We’re as a collective disappointed with the result, to go down a goal that early. And to have an injury, obviously we faced some challenges and adversity tonight,” San Antonio coach Alen Marcina said. “We fought hard to try and come back, and got one back, unfortunately had a player sent off and made it difficult. Yeah disappointed, we’ll learn from this, put it behind us, move on and be ready for our next opponent.

The injury delay meant it was the seventh minute before Sacramento could take the penalty kick. Juan Herrera stepped up to the spot and converted the penalty for Sacramento’s first goal with a shot into the bottom left corner of the goal. Sacramento Republic had two more chances to go up 2-0 in the next two minutes but their first shot was saved by San Antonio Goalkeeper Jordan Farr and the second shot was missed.
