KOTA KINABALU: Umno is in a dilemma over what to do about its five Sabah assemblymen who sided with Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor in the recent state political crisis, says an analyst.
Dr Romzi Ationg, however, said that the party has no choice but to give the five the boot or risk losing the confidence of other members.
The five who threw their support behind Hajiji in the political turmoil are Datuk Shahelmey Yahya , Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob , Datuk Jasnih Daya , Datuk Arsad Bistari , and Datuk James Ratib .The membership of the five are now in question after Umno passed two amendments to its constitution which could see members being expelled if they go against the party's stand.
Firdausi, however, acknowledged the quandary Umno was in, saying it would not bode well for the party if the five remained members."If they don't sack them, it will be against the party's spirit and stand," he said, adding this would be added pressure on the party after their poor performance in GE15.Their backing enabled Hajiji, the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah chairman, to stay on as Chief Minister and continue spearheading the GRS-led state government.
