Rutgers will face Boston College on the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

The timing of the game in Chestnut Hill — which was originally scheduled for Saturday, September 12 — was revealed last week by Boston College athletic director Blake James on his podcastThe meeting in Piscataway next fall has been set for Saturday, September 11, since the home-and-home agreement was reached in July of 2015, according to a copy of the contract obtained by NJ Advance Media via an open public records request. This fall’s contest will be the Eagles’ annual Red Bandana game, which commemorates Welles Crowther, a BC alum who saved as many as 18 lives from the South Tower before losing his own life when the tower collapsed. Rutgers is the ninth opponent Boston College will host in its Red Bandana game. The Eagles are 5-7 in the first 12 iterations of the tradition. “25 years after September 11th, the horrific situation that happened here in this country, to be able to have Rutgers and Boston College on that night ... it’s one that we are looking forward to.” James said. “Continuing to never forget what happened on that day, and we’ll have a special night here with Rutgers.” Rutgers last faced Boston College in the 2022 season in Chestnut Hill.
