Rutgers faced Penn State at the Bryce Jordan Center in State College, Pennsylvania, on Sunday night.

Rutgers got off to an early lead, hitting two of its first four field goal attempts to earn a 5-2 advantage that would last for exactly two minutes. Penn State took control from there, outscoring the visitors 24-4 over the next 10 minutes.

Simpson salvaged the Scarlet Knights, going on a personal 7-0 run in the final two minutes of the first half to cut the halftime deficit to 10 points. He had a team-high 9 points on 4-of-8 shooting in the opening 20 minutes; the rest of his teams host 20% overall , went 2-of-9 on lay-ups, 2-of-10 on threes and 0-of-2 on free throws in the first half.

Rutgers held Penn State without a field goal for the final 9:16 of the contest, forcing 14 consecutive misses. The Nittany Lions would hit just one of their final 18 field goal attempts while the Scarlet Knights hit 11 of their final 20 attempts. Rutgers gets four days of rest until its next game, a meeting with Minnesota in Minneapolis on Thursday night. A victory at Williams Arena would almost surely punch a program-first third consecutive NCAA Tournament bid for the Scarlet Knights.
