The Scarlet Knights are just over two weeks away from their season-opener against Northwestern.
“We went in and tried to do a couple of different things,” Schiano said. “And I thought defensively we played better today than we did the first scrimmage. So pretty stout defensive effort, and I thought our offense slugged it our pretty well with them. It wasn’t going to be an explosive day. They’re playing pretty well right now.”because Wimsatt had showed “a lot” of improvement in that area during the first half of training camp, according to Schiano.
But Saturday, Wimsatt was effective in red-zone situations and other scripted scenarios. That was Schiano’s biggest takeaway. “One of the things we emphasized today was red-zone offense,” Schiano said when asked about Wimsatt’s scrimmage. “Everything happens more quickly down there — spaces lessen, you get more pressure and those types of things, and he did a really good job reading and going through his progressions to get more.”
Wimsatt, who was named the team’s starting quarterback heading into training camp, said he used last week’s scrimmage as a learning experience. “There were things we saw on the tape that we could fix,” Wimsatt said after practice Thursday. “Just taking the game from practice to the scrimmage, there’s always stuff on the tape we’re going to have to fix. Taking that from the film, back to the practice , and perfecting it. That’s what we’re working on.”Other takeaways from Saturday’s scrimmage
