Surely it is not unreasonable for us to expect basic accountability from our president as to why she is suddenly no longer fit to be our chancellor?” the group of distinguished professors, department heads and associate professors wrote.
The leadership of the Rutgers AAUP-AFT faculty union's Newark chapter also issued a statement Friday objecting to Cantor's replacement, saying she made Rutgers more accessible to Black, Latino and working-class students. "The dismissal of Chancellor Cantor comes in a context of persistent pay, resource, and infrastructure inequities across Rutgers campuses. It has become clear that Rutgers-Newark, Rutgers-Camden and the diverse communities who attend, work, and live in Newark and Camden, are simply not a priority for the Holloway administration," the chapter leadership wrote.
Dory Devlin, a spokesperson for Holloway’s office, wouldn’t say why Cantor’s contract would not be renewed after it expires in June. Devlin said it was a personnel matter and “wholly inappropriate to discuss.
