Rutgers turned that change of momentum into a 10-play touchdown drive that put Rutgers back into the mix.for the Scarlet Knights to score a signature Big Ten road game. The end result was a 24-13 loss that left Rutgers coach Greg Schiano claiming his team is getting better, but ultimately not good enough to win against one of the Big Ten’s best teams in the West Division.
From start to finish, Wisconsin stymied the Rutgers rushing attack. Despite coming in averaging 195 rushing yards per game, junior Kyle Monangai and freshman Ja’shon Benjamin combined for just 29 yards on 12 carries. Then, the Scarlet Knights went three and out after a three-yard run by Benjamin before surrendering a sack and an incomplete pass. The result was its fifth punt and fourth three and out in five possessions.
The defense came into Saturday’s showdown at Camp Randall Stadium ranked inside the top 25 nationally in rushing defense , scoring defense and total defense . With Wisconsin’s offense scoring 17 points on the Scarlet Knights, Rutgers gave up just over their average of 12.8 points allowed per game.
