The Houston Rodeo carnival was closed early on Saturday night due to safety concerns after crowds became rowdy and began to run, causing a chain reaction. Despite social media rumors of a shooting, both Houston Police and rodeo officials confirmed there was no gun involved, and a few fights were quickly dispersed by officers.
Rumors online began circulating that a shooting happened, but Houston Police confirmed with KPRC 2 News they have no such record of that happening. Rodeo officials also said there was no gun, despite social media chatter.
Houston Rodeo horses OK after fall during chuck wagon race On Saturday night, Houston Rodeo officials said they closed the carnival “out of an abundance of caution” after a group began running. The situation caused a chain reaction, and more people started running. “A group of individuals began running in the carnival area, which prompted others nearby to run. Law enforcement engaged quickly and we are not aware of any injuries at this time. Out of an abundance of caution, the carnival closed early. The safety and security of our guests remains the top priority for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.”Sunday is Go Tejano Day at the Houston Rodeo.
