An SUV driver was killed when their vehicle was struck by an Amtrak train Wednesday morning in Round Rock, while no injuries were reported among the 46 passengers and crew members aboard the train. The collision occurred at approximately 11 a.m. at the intersection of the Interstate 35 frontage road and McNeil Road. The driver of the SUV, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was declared dead at the scene by first responders, Round Rock officials said.
Round Rock Police and Fire Departments responded to the scene, along with representatives from Amtrak and Union Pacific. Amtrak Police are working with local law enforcement to investigate the incident. Amtrak Train 22 was traveling from San Antonio to Chicago at the time of the collision. While the train was delayed for about four hours, Amtrak reported that none of the 46 passengers or crew members on board suffered any injuries.
