B for Film has also unveiled a first clip for the film revealing Duris speaking Japanese in his role as a man making a living as a taxi driver in Tokyo, who is desperate to reconnect with his daughter, who he has not seen in nine years, following his divorce from her Japanese mother. The picture takes it premise from Japan’s long-running custody law under which only one parent is allowed custody of children in the case of divorce, with the other spouse not even having visitation rights.
They then connected with three French men – Vincent Fichot, Emmanuel de Fournas and Stéphane Lambert – who were campaigning for a change in the law having suffered this fate. Beyond the story of custody battle, Senez was also inspired by the idea of telling a story about a French person facing challenges as a migrant in a different culture.
