NEW: Rockies left fielder Kris Bryant, who’s been slowed by a sore back, was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday.
Bryant, who missed the last three games in Philadelphia, underwent an MRI on his back Friday. Manager Bud Black said that the MRI showed no structural damage.Taking Bryant’s place on the 28-man roster will be slugging corner infielder Elehuris Montero, who was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque. He was expected to join the Rockies at some point during their game Friday night against Cincinnati at Coors Field.
Starting second baseman Brendan Rodgers, who’s mired in a deep slump, has also been hampered by a sore back. He took swings in the batting cage Friday and the club hopes he can avoid a trip to the IL. Bryant, who signed a seven-year, $182 million free-agent deal, came out of the gate hot, hitting .349 with hits in 10 of his first 11 games, but he’s slumped to a .281 average and has yet to hit a home run.
