This time, the Rockets would not let Dillon Brooks get away. But as much as they had prioritized landing the Grizzlies free agent, that was just the beginning of a whirlwind of moves that dramatically reshaped the roster.
Yet, while VanVleet, 29, and Brooks, 27, are the headliners, they are not alone in the Rockets’ retooling with veterans.
In the postseason with the Suns, he was more effective than starter Deandre Ayton in several games, but the Suns withdrew their qualifying offer, making Landale an unrestricted free agent, before reaching agreement with Trail Blazers free agent center Drew Eubanks. If all that did not represent enough of a move toward proven veterans, the Rockets also reached agreement on a one-year, $6 million deal to bring back Jeff Green, who was considered a well-traveled veteran when he joined the Rockets in the 2019-20 season. Green is a 15-year veteran who has played on 11 teams, winning a championship with the Nuggets last season.
