Monroe, Orleans, Genesee & Wayne counties through 10 a.m. Saturday. Snow accumulation of 3-6" possible. Isolated higher totals lakeside.Rochester, N.Y. — Many Rochester businesses participated in a nationwide "ICE Out" protest Friday, with several closing their doors in solidarity against the immigration crackdown in Minnesota.

However, some businesses, like Go Frost Yourself bakery on Ridgeway Avenue, opted to remain open and support the cause in a different way. "I know that there are a lot of people that are closing today in solidarity and I absolutely and totally stand with them," owner Mollie Recktenwald explained. "But our choice was to keep boots on the ground and kind of face our community and tell them we're here for you." "We've had so many people in here from Legal Aid also that have just been so grateful for the donations," she said. "I think it just shows the need that this community has and the amount of people that truly do get affected by when stuff like this happens.""The response from people coming in has been amazing," Recktenwald said. "We've had uniformed police officers in the community and first responders. We've had business owners that have closed, still stop in to help out. We've had people that have never been here. We have people that are regulars that are just die-hard and it's just been overwhelmingly positive." Other local businesses, such as Strangebird, Untamed Nutrition, Lento Restaurant, Winter Swan Coffee, The Unreliable Narrator, The Acorn Exchange and more, also chose to stay open and announced on social media their plans to donate to various groups supporting immigrants. "It's the ability for us to use our business, even being a small part in the community for something bigger than what we are," Recktenwald added.Medina leaders weigh selling new $1.7M ladder truck that won't fit in firehouseAt least 25 vehicles involved in crash that closed portion of Thruway in WNY, police say Batavia, N.Y. — A portion of the New York State Thruway in Genesee County was closed in both directions Thursday afternoon following a crash.Amid nationwide protests in response to the immigration crackdown unfolding in Minnesota, several small businesses in Rochester plan to close in solidarity. The bitter weather in Monroe County has not only been taxing for residents but for their water systems as well.A 63-year-old woman is speaking out after nearly losing $1,800 in a gift card scam — a scheme experts say is increasingly targeting older adults.
