However, alongside the main story, this comic also features a notably lighter variant cover that hints at a potential new role for Damian in the DC Universe – that of a high school baseball star!
Illustrated by Gleb Melnikov, the variant cover depicts Damian sporting a Robin-themed baseball uniform, but despite the whimsical nature of this cover, there are darker details woven into the artwork that hint at impending danger for the Boy Wonder.Robin’s baseball uniform is baby blue and features a patch of the characteristic Robin “R” on the sleeve. However, this isn’t the only homage to Damian’s vigilante life.
This is a particularly clever and detailed variant cover, as it incorporates elements of Damian’s civilian life along with his vigilante life, which have both been featured strongly in Williamson’s Batman and Robin run. At the very start of the run, Williamson made a point of steering the story in a way that would focus on Damian attending high school and has since carried that theme throughout the story while still giving Robin plenty of page time.
