Roadworks are being carried out outside Carlton le Willows Academy to address concerns about access arrangements. The new entrance on Burton Road has caused all students to use the same busy road, prompting calls for safety measures. The school has confirmed that improvements will be made, including a temporary closure of the new entrance and the installation of temporary traffic signals.

Roadworks are taking place outside the entrance to a major Nottinghamshire school in a move which it is hoped will 'reduce the risks' posed to students. Concerns have been raised by local councillors and residents about the current access arrangements for those attending the Carlton le Willows Academy, on Wood Lane in Gedling.

Work to improve the situation was confirmed by the school in a letter to parents on October 19, which said that it would involve a full Burton Road closure from October 21 until October 29. When students return from the half term break, four weeks of temporary traffic signals will be in place, lasting until November 24.

Following the completion of works, the Wood Lane entrance to the academy will permanently closed again to traffic and pedestrians. But one of those calling for that to change is Conservative Councillor Sam Smith, who represents the Trent Valley ward on Gedling Borough Council. Councillor Smith pointed out that he and fellow Trent Valley representative, Conservative Councillor Mike Adams, raised objections at the time of the school's expansion to its entrance being moved to Burton Road. Councillor Smith says a better arrangement would instead have been to install a pick up and drop off zone by the new Gedling Access Road.
