Director Ridley Scott has revealed that he walked away from his planned Bee Gees biopic due to a disagreement with the studio over creative control. Scott explained that the studio changed the terms of the deal, pushing him too far, and ultimately leading to him choosing to pursue another project instead. Despite the delay, Scott remains hopeful that the issues can be resolved and he can return to making the Bee Gees film later this year.

The movie was supposed to begin filming in early 2025; however, it was announced in November 2024 that Scott will first make a different movie calledHe didn’t elaborate on what the issue was at the time, though he did say he’s “hoping to return to that by the end of .

.”, Scott discussed the matter more openly and explained why he’s decided to move on to other things for the time being. “The deal—the studio changed the goalposts,” Scott explained. “I said, ‘You can’t do that.’ They insisted. I said, ‘Well, I’m going to warn you, I will walk, because I will go on to the next movie.’ They didn’t believe me, and I did.” Scott still hopes the issues will be worked out and that he can film the Bee Gees movie later this year; however, the project has been “set aside” for now. “I was being asked to go too far,” he says. “And I said, ‘No. Next!’ They didn’t like my deal. So I said, I’ll move on. I’m expensive, but I’m f—ing good.”Regarding what the movie will be about, should it get made, Scott said. “I liked the working-class side of the Bee Gees. It’s all about competition with brothers…. And then they lose Andy—Andy OD’d at 30…. It’s more about the gift than the luck, right?… It’s a fantastic story.”Brandon Schreur has been writing about comics, movies, television shows, and all things pop culture for roughly five years.
