High winds and light snow showers continue for areas of Western Alaska

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Temperatures across the state have been warming through the weekend as a ridge has settled into Alaska. While the ridge is expected to flatten and shift to the south, most of this week will remain fairly quiet for most of the state. High wind warnings and light snow continue to impact areas of Western Alaska , with Southcentral poised to see sunshine and highs in the 20s.Areas of dense fog are forming this morning, with a warm air inversion aloft.

The overall weather pattern favors dry, fairly seasonal afternoons and chilly mornings. Looking at the extended forecast, it may be some time before precipitation builds back into Southcentral.Clear and chilly conditions will greet everyone in Southeast today, with this week poised to bring quiet, sunny and cooler weather. The snow that fell late last week shows no signs of melting this week.

We’ll see daily highs in the 10s and possibly lower 20s, with areas of the Eastern Interior being noticeably cooler this week. While we do stay on the dry side today, some light snow moves in late Tuesday night through Thursday. Light accumulation is expected in these locations. Outside of the chance for snow, be prepared for additional areas of freezing fog into Tuesday morning.
