Her education and training have equipped her with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively lead and manage the Sheriff's Office. She served for 14 years and 8 months in the United States Air Force Reserves, where she held leadership roles and played a pivotal role in the execution of critical operations. Laffitte's military service included leadership roles such as Dorm Chief during Basic Military Training, where she led her flight to graduate as Honor Flight W024. During her time in the Air Force Reserves, Laffitte played a pivotal role in the execution of Operations Noble Eagle, Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom, demonstrating her ability to handle tough situations and provide critical expertise. Laffitte also volunteered to support the mobilization of hundreds of reservists after the September 11th attacks. She was awarded numerous medals for her outstanding service, including the Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Valor Device, and Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Medal. Her achievements were also acknowledged through her nomination as “Sharp Troop” and her role as an Assistant Wing Career Advisor.
