Laffitte, a decorated veteran with 26 years and 6 months of service at the Mobile County Sheriff ’s Office, has met the necessary qualifications to run as a Democratic candidate. Her career is marked by numerous commendations and awards recognizing her dedication, service, and commitment to the community.
Throughout her tenure, Laffitte has consistently demonstrated exceptional performance and a strong commitment to public service, earning her the respect of her colleagues and the community she served. Her experience encompasses various roles within the Sheriff’s Office, including administrative support and working in a challenging environment that required strong organizational, technical, and interpersonal skills. She is known for her ethical conduct, discretion, and ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels. Prior to her career with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, Laffitte served as a Public Safety Dispatcher for the City of Prichard Police and Fire Department, further showcasing her commitment to public safety. As Sheriff, Laffitte aims to be an effective voice for everyone, leveraging her extensive experience and leadership skills to serve the needs of the community and promote public safety. Laffitte's dedication extends beyond her law enforcement career. Her education includes a Bachelor of Science in Business Degree with an emphasis in Management from Faulkner University, and she also holds certifications from Central Texas College and Air University related to leadership development. Laffitte is a graduate of the Southwest Alabama Police Academy and has earned certificates in Jail Management Training and from the Alabama Jail Training Academy. Her education and training have equipped her with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively lead and manage the Sheriff's Office. She served for 14 years and 8 months in the United States Air Force Reserves, where she held leadership roles and played a pivotal role in the execution of critical operations. Laffitte's military service included leadership roles such as Dorm Chief during Basic Military Training, where she led her flight to graduate as Honor Flight W024. During her time in the Air Force Reserves, Laffitte played a pivotal role in the execution of Operations Noble Eagle, Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom, demonstrating her ability to handle tough situations and provide critical expertise. Laffitte also volunteered to support the mobilization of hundreds of reservists after the September 11th attacks. She was awarded numerous medals for her outstanding service, including the Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Valor Device, and Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Medal. Her achievements were also acknowledged through her nomination as “Sharp Troop” and her role as an Assistant Wing Career Advisor. She is currently a 2022 elected member of the State Democratic Executive Committee, demonstrating her active involvement in local politics. Additionally, she is a member of the Mobile County Democratic Executive Committee and the Mobile County Democratic Conference (MCDC). Laffitte has a history of leadership within the community, including her past roles as Vice-President and President of the Mobile County Merit System Employees Association and participation in Project H.O.P.E.
