Barnoldswick residents fear new housing estate will be built 'just one metre from their properties'

Updated plans for 30 new homes on the edge of a Pendle town need further changes to soften a ‘hard edge’ with neighbouring countryside, councillors have said.

And plans for one house on the other side have been changed, to tackle fears from an existing household at Meadow Way that it would block daylight. A number of current residents spoke at the West Craven meeting. Among them was Howard Potts, whose home is close to a proposed new home plot. He said: “Water pours off the field if there is torrential rain. It can flood some of the neighbours’ land. If these new houses are built on higher land, where will the rainwater go?”Another public speaker, identified only as Jean, claimed plans for the new development had been inconsistent. House sizes had varied, with three, four and five-bedroom properties shown in different plans, she said. A break in a boundary was shown for ‘future developments’, she added.

Also, she said residents had to submit their comments by specific deadlines and had no chance to respond to the 11 new documents which had ‘come in the last day’. However, Richard Walters, speaking for the developers, said: “We were here in May when the application was deferred to look at some key points, which have been addressed.
