A resident of an apartment building on Brookpark Road at about 8:20 a.m. on April 6 reported finding a 9 mm handgun, holster, two magazines, and 24 rounds of ammunition had been stolen from his parked car.

The man said he parked his car on April 3 and left the holstered weapon and ammunition in the center console. On April 6, he discovered the items were missing. He said he believed his vehicle was locked. However, a police report notes the officer did not spot any signs of forced entry.An officer at 4:30 p.m. on March 31 stopped a car with an expired temporary tag driving 83 mph on I-480 near Clague Road. The officer detected a “strong odor of burnt marijuana” and spotted a partially smoked cigarette in a cup in the center console, according to a police report. However, the driver denied smoking while driving. The driver confirmed that he did not have a valid license as his was suspended. The officer called for a truck to impound and tow the car. However, while waiting for the truck to arrive, the driver pulled out into traffic and proceeded eastbound on I-480. The officer pursued, and the male driver pulled over again near the W. 227th Street overpass. The officer denied the driver’s request to release the car to a third party and again arranged a tow. However, before the truck arrived, the driver again pulled away from the traffic stop. The officer did not pursue because he had identified the driver, according to the police report. The officer has visited the suspect’s last known residence several times but has failed to locate the vehicle. The officer in Rocky River Municipal Court filed complaints charging the suspect with failure to comply with a police officer, a felony, and misdemeanor charges of obstructing official business, speeding, expired plates, and driving with a suspended license, according to a police document.Officers at 2:06 p.m. on March 31 responded to Giant Eagle regarding a suspected shoplifter. A store loss prevention officer reported she saw the suspect fail to scan multiple items at a self-checkout register and try to leave the store with the items concealed in a reusable shopping bag.The suspect was charged with petty theft and banned from the store, according to the report.
