The redistricting commission has until the end of today to approve a state legislative map, according to the panel's interpretation of an Ohio Supreme Court order.

The Ohio Redistricting Commission plans to meet at 11 a.m. at the earliest today as it works to pass a new state legislative map before a midnight deadline. COLUMBUS, Ohio – Hours before a legal deadline set by the Ohio Supreme Court, Republicans and Democrats on the Ohio Redistricting Commission on Saturday night remained divided on how closely to adhere to Ohio’s political balance as they design new state legislative maps.

contains nine House districts favoring Democrats by 1 percentage point or less, while the closest Republican House district was +5 Republican. The GOP Senate plan has five districts favoring Democrats by 3 points, compared to only one competitive Republican district. On Saturday evening, Republican Auditor Keith Faber said the GOP map appears to be the one the commission appears to be working off of as a template. He also criticized Democratic map-makers for and not producing their map proposal until Saturday morning with the midnight deadline looming.

As of Saturday evening, the process seemed headed to another party-line vote. There are five Republicans on the commission – Gov. Mike DeWine, Secretary of State Frank LaRose, state Auditor Keith Faber Senate President Matt Huffman and House Speaker Bob Cupp – and two Democrats, Russo and Sen. Vernon Sykes.
