Google Gemini reportedly accused Senator Tom Cotton of violating its policies on hate speech and harassment.

by RAY LEWIS | The National News DeskGoogle Gemini reportedly accused Senator Tom Cotton of violating its policies on hate speech and harassment. Senator Tom Cotton, the Arkansas Republican, on Tuesday dismissed Google Gemini’s reported claim that he has voiced hate speech.

Wynton Hall, the social media director for conservative outlet Breitbart News, wrote in a book published the same day that Gemini accused Cotton of violating its hate speech and harassment policies through comments on gay rights, diversity programs and transgender sports competition. “The vast majority of Americans agree that girls sports should be for girls only – not men,” Cotton said in aThe National News Desk couldn’t confirm Hall's findings. It asked Gemini the same question Hall said he did and did not receive a response accusing Cotton of expressing hate speech. TNND also requested comment from Google but hasn’t heard back., though, that Gemini offers a “range of views” when asked for its opinion but doesn’t always give “perfect” responses. "We continue to work hard to mitigate bias through extensive testing, and surveys show Gemini is among the least biased AI model in the industry,” the spokesperson said. Cotton has often described woman-identifying transgender athletes as men, a practice many people in the queer community find offensive. Last year, he Google says its policies direct Gemini to oppose bullying and the discrimination of people that's based on legally protected characteristics. Republicans have for years accused Big Tech of favoring liberal perspectives. Senator Ted Cruz, the Texas Republican, claimed in October that companies worked with the Biden administration to censor conservative social media accounts. “This collusion between Big Government and Big Tech is a warning that we need stronger tools to guard our cherished freedoms,” he said in a speech. The Biden administration rejected the allegations. In 2024, when the Supreme Court denied claims that the administration pressured companies into censoring conservatives, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said that the president was protecting the public. The ruling "helps ensure the Biden Administration can continue our important work with technology companies to protect the safety and security of the American people, after years of extreme and unfounded Republican attacks on public officials who engaged in critical work to keep Americans safe,” Jean-Pierre said in a statement.Suspect arrested after causing nearly $250,000 in damage at Chihuly Garden and Glass Police say a man caused nearly a quarter of a million dollars in damage after breaking into Chihuly Garden and Glass and attacking a security guard.Thurston County on Tuesday signed off on an ordinance requiring people to obtain a Home Energy Score before listing a property for sale. The Seattle Police Department made an arrest in a Jan. 30 shooting in Rainier Beach that killed two high school students.SPD said a juvenile male suspectEconomists say gas prices in Washington jumped nearly 90 cents in just more than two weeks, averaging $5.06 a gallon, according to AAA.
