"The intervention from Ken Paxton in these races definitely is a new trend in the politics of the legal process here in Texas," Brandon Rottinghaus, a political science professor at the University of Houston, said. "This is essentially the Attorney General saying that he wants to see a new court because he wants to have different outcomes.
"Most people don't have a lot of experience with the courts; most people don't know exactly what each individual court does or know who these judges are, so they tend to reflexively vote on party," Rottinghaus said.
