Hanson, who said he thought his girlfriend was 18, has cognitive issues but still understands right from wrong, Lê said. He tends to associate with younger people, struggles with impulse control and lacks the ability to analyze situations and act accordingly, Kozakavich told court. He said Hanson’s mother is supportive but says there’s only so much she can do. Court heard he hopes to get in touch with Community Living, a government branch that helps people with intellectual disabilities access community-based services, upon his release.Article content Accepting the Crown and defence’s joint submission, Anand imposed a 12-year Section 161 order to follow Hanson’s 46-month jail sentence.
