Rep. Val Hoyle (D-Ore.) has resigned from the House's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Caucus, citing concerns over the leadership of Elon Musk and the group's mission. Hoyle expressed her belief that Musk, as an unelected individual, prioritizes personal financial gain over the needs of working people and government efficiency.

Rep. Val Hoyle , D-Ore., on Thursday announced she would abandon the House’s Department of Government Efficiency Caucus, citing difficulties with the group’s leadership. The caucus, chaired by Rep. Aaron Bean, R-Fla.

, promises to usher in “sweeping common-sense reform” by fostering a partnership between Congress and DOGE, an advisory committee for President Donald Trump. This mission, according to Rep. Hoyle, would be simple if left to elected officials. “I joined the DOGE Caucus to ensure there was a voice in the room for working people and to protect Americans’ earned benefits, while also making the government more streamlined and efficient,” she wrote in a statement. “I believe that many of my colleagues joined the caucus for the same reason and are operating in good faith." Rep. Hoyle, however, explained she could not cooperate with DOGE head Elon Musk due to his status as an unelected private citizen. Musk, she claimed, is more concerned with using his influence to earn money. It is impossible for us to do that important work when unelected billionaire Elon Musk and his lackeys are set on burning down the government—and the law—to line his own pockets and rip off Americans across the country who depend on government services to live with dignity," she said. Musk’s mission, Rep. Hoyle argued, is to “find funds to give tax breaks for billionaires at the expense of working people.”Reacting to the announcement was Jeff Meyers, founder of education activist group Save Oregon Schools.“They have already uncovered some massive fraud, but perhaps they've also stepped too far in other areas,” he added. “Rather than doing the work and being part of the solution, you gave up after two weeks.” The decision comes as a number of other Democratic lawmakers begin to scrutinize DOGE.
