The Boston Red Sox are reportedly interested in acquiring star third baseman Nolan Arenado from the St. Louis Cardinals.
Nolan Arenado , widely regarded as one of the most exceptional third basemen of his era, is reportedly open to being traded. The St. Louis Cardinals , despite their efforts, haven't yet secured a trade partner for Arenado. However, as the season opener draws near, the Boston Red Sox are emerging as a potential suitor for the star player. ESPN's Jesse Rogers predicted that the Red Sox would find a way to acquire Arenado for their infield.
Rogers stated, 'After exhausting attempts to sign Bregman, the Red Sox pivot to Arenado as the St. Louis Cardinals start to exhibit a bit of desperation with the season approaching. The fit in St. Louis just isn't right anymore and everyone knows it. The Cardinals aren't concerned with money owed to Arenado, so they're willing to pick up a portion of it because they want quality prospects in return. Boston can deliver that.'Arenado signed an eight-year, $260 million contract with the Colorado Rockies. He was subsequently traded to the Cardinals and will become a free agent in 2028. Throughout his career, he has been an eight-time All-Star, a five-time Silver Slugger, a 10-time Gold Glover, and a six-time Platinum Glover. A trade for Arenado would enable the Red Sox to shift Rafael Devers to first base and provide the flexibility to trade Triston Casas. Last season, Arenado hit 16 home runs and maintained a .272 batting average. The Red Sox might be more willing than other teams to absorb a larger portion of Arenado's contract. Their pursuit of Juan Soto earlier this winter demonstrated their willingness to make significant financial commitments. If the competition for Arenado intensifies, the Red Sox could potentially outbid other contenders by taking on a greater share of his salary. Notably, the Red Sox were among the initial six teams that Arenado was willing to waive his no-trade clause for
