A Columbus man is facing charges after police say he intentionally set his house on fire twice in one week.

Court records show 62-year-old Kenneth Hendricks admitted to setting a fire to his home on Lock Avenue on Monday, and then again on Thursday.People who live nearby told WSYX that Hendricks struggled with his mental health. A neighbor who wanted to remain anonymous says he knew him.On Monday, Columbus fire was called to the 600 block of Lock Avenue. Court records show Hendricks had told police he owned the house.

During this encounter, Hendricks told officers that he had "squatters" in the home that we was trying to evict. The documents state that Hendricks and those tenants had issues, and he believed they stole his truck and killed his 20-year-old dog the night before.Hendricks later admitted to setting the fire that spread to the porch. He told police he opened the doors to let the dogs out and had no intentions of killing anyone.

Three days later, Columbus fire was called back to the home. This time, intense flames tore through the house. You couldn’t help from seeing it. It smoked the whole neighborhood up.” According to the affidavit, police saw Hendricks putting debris on the fire. He was arrested and admitted to setting this fire as well.Hendricks is now charged with aggravated arson and is due back in court next week.
