That is because the city saw a record 19 complexes completed in the city last year, according to the Huntsville 2025 Development Review released Tuesday night at the Planning Commission meeting.More than 3,257 units and 14 complexes are currently under construction and an additional 780 have been approved by the Planning Commission as of Dec.

Overall, Huntsville issued 4,813 residential certificates of occupancy, the second highest annual total for new housing units since the development review in Huntsville begin in 1983. That number includes 1,076 single-family units and 3,737 multi-family units. The top census tracts for residential certificates of occupancy are Research Park East because of the completion of several multifamily projects at MidCity, downtown and Chapman. A total of 866 permits were issued for single-family residential additions and alterations, an increase of 6.4% over 2024. Neighborhoods that saw an increase in renovation permits included Oakmont Park, English Village and Providence. The top tracts for additions and alterations last year Governors East, Monte Sano and Hampton Cove. The total number of single-family lots approved increased by 84%, the highest since 2007. The Planning Commission approved 1,892 single-family units.
